The spreadsheet contains quarterly values of average loan repayments per month calculated based on average variable standard interest rate applied to an average value of a loan assuming the length of the loan being 25 years. The spreadsheet contains home affordability indicators for Australia as well as for New South Wales, Victoria, Queensland, South Australia, Western Australia, the Northern Territory, Tasmania and Australian Capital Territory from the December quarter 1996.

The spreadsheet also contains long term average figures for each state and territory as well as for Australia from the March Quarter 1997.

Home loan affordability indicator (HLAI) is a ratio of family income to average loan repayments. The HLAI divided by a constant factor of 10 is the number of times by which median family income exceeds average home loan repayments in a full year. December quarter 1996
